Dr. Josias Jean-Pierre is not just a name in the world of motivational speaking and authorship; he is a global force transforming the way we think about purpose, leadership, and personal growth. With eight books to his name and accolades spanning continents, including the Nelson Mandela Award, the ChristLit Book Award, and recognition as Author of the Year in Durban. Dr. Jean-Pierre’s influence stretches from New York Times Square billboards to audiences across Africa, Europe, and the Americas. He has built a platform that empowers people to turn pain into purpose, messes into messages, and miseries into ministries.

Through his work, Dr. Jean-Pierre emphasizes that true transformation begins with facing adversity, embracing authenticity, and reclaiming one’s narrative. From his upcoming children’s book, Dear Black Boy, to his global speaking engagements, he encourages individuals to confront setbacks not as limitations, but as preparation for impact. His mission is rooted in the three E’s  : Empower, Equip, and Elevate  , guiding people to rise boldly into their God-given potential without limits. In a world that often celebrates visibility over vulnerability, Dr. Jean-Pierre reminds us that leadership is not just about success, but about creating meaningful change in the lives of others.

Hi, what are you working on lately? Any projects, initiatives, and new things in the works you can share with us today?

Dr. Josias: Lately, I’ve been working on releasing a children’s book called Dear Black Boy. A message for young kings, helping them understand their worth and that, despite what society says, it does not define who they are.

You’ve received recognition across multiple continents. How has engaging with different cultures shaped the way you define leadership and influence?

Dr. Josias: Engaging with different cultures shaped how I define leadership. By understanding the cultural living of how they do things in that culture. Being able to grasp cultural differences and relay a message that connects the two cultures.

As someone who writes extensively about transformation, what do you believe people misunderstand the most about the process of personal growth?

Dr. Josias: I believe the one thing people misunderstood about personal growth is that they think they still have to hold on to the very people that could be holding them back from elevation. We can get so tied to the connection to others because of the history that one may have with another person. However, fail to realize that it’s okay to outgrow circles you were once connected to.

Many leaders struggle privately while inspiring others publicly. How do you personally maintain emotional and spiritual balance while carrying the responsibility of motivating others?

Dr. Josias: I have accountability partners that I can talk to, and they hold me accountable. Outside of that, my faith in God is big, and I always tell God to break my heart for what breaks his and let me decrease so he can have the increase. What I am speaking has to move me first before it can move others. I maintain spiritual and emotional balance by doing the work. Seeing therapy and having a circle that authentically supports and has real dialogue.

Your work encourages people to transform their “mess into a message.” Can you share how storytelling helps people reclaim their narrative?

Dr. Josias: Storytelling plays a big role in connecting. For me, I get authentic and transparent, sharing pieces of myself that I know will resonate with others. If you want to connect with an audience, share a story that resonates and inspires others to hang in there. I always say, you must, you can, and you will. You know how something tastes, why would you want to repeat it? When people can connect to your story or a story, it gives them hope that they too can overcome, can triumph, and can have their mess turn into a message. Your testimony or story gives people the power, strength, and belief to overcome.

As someone shaping conversations about leadership and identity, what do you believe the next generation of leaders must prioritize in order to create lasting change?

Dr. Josias: I truly believe that the next generation of leaders must prioritize facing adversity and being okay to say, “I am struggling, and I need help,” especially in a world where we want to be connected, keep up with the Joneses, and do what seems popular or cool. The world doesn’t need duplicates; it needs real people willing to face real struggles and press on despite them to create a real, effective change for a better community and world.

If someone listening today feels that their life has been defined by setbacks rather than opportunities, what is the first step they can take to rewrite their story?

Dr. Josias: Setbacks are preparation for a bounce back. You’re born on purpose, for a purpose, and with a purpose. If you feel like your life is defined by setbacks rather than opportunities, understand that the setbacks are not what define you, and they’re only there to prepare you for a major impact. The first step you can take is to write, ponder, and reflect on what this setback is trying to teach me. What is decreasing in my life that is making room for the next level? Behind every setback, things are falling apart so the right thing can fall in place.

Looking ahead, what legacy do you hope your work leaves  not just in books or awards  but in the lives of people who encounter your message?

Dr. Josias: The legacy I hope my work leaves is the legacy of the three E’s. Empower, Equip, & Elevate. Empowering others so they can be equipped with the tools that they need so they can elevate into who God created them to be with no limits.
