Kevan “Kdub” Worthy is a name that resonates deeply within Memphis’s music landscape, symbolizing talent, dedication, and resilience. Born and raised in Memphis, Kdub’s journey in music began at age four with piano lessons. Encouraged by his South Memphis-born parents, Kdub’s ten-year commitment to piano laid a foundation that would support a career marked by versatility and innovation. But music wasn’t his only talent. Kdub excelled in sports, particularly football and basketball, and also played the tenor saxophone at White Station High School, revealing a multifaceted skill set that would serve him well in his music career.

Upon graduating in 1994, Kdub attended Tennessee State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. However, his passion for music production persisted, leading him to Atlanta, where he attended AIU Buckhead’s music program. In Atlanta, Kdub joined forces with his friend Taurus Lincoln, aka “RedBo$$,” and began building a network that eventually brought him back to Memphis. Once home, Kdub learned from industry legends like Crunchy Black, Playa Fly, La Chat, Carlos “6 July” Broady, Drumma Boy, and DJ Zirk, experience that proved invaluable. His work on Black Youngsta’s “Fast Bricks” mixtape was transformative, helping launch the artist to a major record deal with CMG in 2015.

After his success, Kdub took a break to focus on raising his three children. When his family grew older, he returned to his first love—music. With newfound passion, he established Grown Folks Music Group (GFMG), a label dedicated to producing, writing, and mentoring emerging artists. GFMG became the platform through which Kdub reasserted his commitment to music, producing work that resonates with fans of all ages, especially those with a love for the soulful, danceable sounds of Memphis.

Kdub’s approach to music is what truly sets him apart. Rather than limiting himself to one genre, he embraces hip-hop, R&B, and Memphis Jookin, showcasing a range that appeals to audiences across the spectrum. His passion for blending genres shows his love for creative freedom. “I respect music in all its forms,” he shares. “While I’m rooted in hip hop and R&B, I love breaking boundaries and introducing new influences.” Kdub’s dynamic sound has connected with fans from six to sixty, making him a standout figure in Memphis’s music scene.

For Kdub, the music is only one part of his legacy. His approach to collaboration and mentorship makes him a trusted figure in the industry. He values respect, collaboration, and innovation, aiming to push Memphis’s music culture forward. “Memphis music raised me,” he says, “and when people work with me, they’re partnering with someone who’s committed to honoring and advancing that legacy.”
