There, she endured blatant racism and was repeatedly told by faculty and advisors that “Black women don’t do physics.” Rather than internalize the hate, she defied expectations, declared space physics as her major, and graduated at the top of her class. She went on to serve 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel—armed with a commitment to tear down the barriers she once had to break through alone.

After recovering from a significant financial setback, JJ became a certified financial planner and launched her own practice. But she didn’t stop there—she saw the bigger picture.
